The first page of this novel I piddle with now and then was on the short list for a "first page" contest.  Inspired me to spend some more time on it.

I thought I know the plot but nah; the MC is telling me and I'm just writing it down.  Am about 58 pages into it.  Clinging to some pages I wrote previously even though I'm sure none of them will fit into what the MC's tale truly is.

The plan (can we laugh here 'cause, well, me and my plans!) is to write on it every day in the new year/decade.

Oh is there a deadline today?

I will NEVER learn but my play about Diane Nash--DUE 12/31-- is almost there.

What to focus on was a challenge because she was so active in the Civil Rights movement and did so much.  Much too late I made the decision what the play would be about.  And then there's the part where Gwen wants the pressure to push her to get the best work.

Anyway there is opportunity for revision (yes I might take it) but there is also the opportunity to "sneak" one's play in tomorrow.  (yes, I'm gonna take that option!)

I hope I do her justice.

Who the hell is Diane Nash?

Do you know who she is?  Bobby Kennedy didn't when he was attorney general, but he found out. An absolutely amazing woman in history.

There is a project 365 Women A Year: a playwriting project where amazing women in history are focused on via plays.  Long list.  I chose Diane Nash, who I first learned about when I was living in Nashville.  Have wanted to write about her in some fashion for a long while.

Waited.

Waited to hear if I was going to be given the green light for this project--you select three choices, then they get back to you.

And it would be a yes!

12:57 am. It's done.  "Type time in California" into Google on my phone. 11:57 pm.
12:58 am. Typing in the title.  But it's an hour earlier in Cali. Got a minute.
12:59. Hit send.
1:02 am (Not California time). Look over work and see that that line I added in last minute pushed lines down onto the next two pages.  I type in page numbers so those ended up moving down too.  😭😂😭😂😭
8:42 am(California time.) Write theatre organization. " I'm ridiculous."
12:04 pm. Grace given.

Loved seeing my play on stage. It's about missing people in general--women and girls, in particular.

Two people said it made them cry. Great! Because it was meant to move and educate.  Sent it off for consideration in another festival.

Tomorrow is a deadline for another festival, but plays can be five minutes at the least.  Got something rolling around in my head.  Gwen the procrastinator might never learn, but with just minutes left I got a ten-minute play about OCS/hoarding completed and sent to a theatre for Black writers in Houston. So maybe.  Last minute means little if I get it done, right?

A new ten-minute play --"Her Name is Alexis Patterson"-- opens Friday and runs through the weekend.

Excited to see what the director did with my script.
